According to the film’s director, Shane Black, the film is going the extra mile in one particular way – through the use of practical effects.
Yesterday, Black tweeted that a scene was taking place on set with an actor dressed as the Predator – indicating that some shots of the creature will not rely on CGI.
I am standing on set next to a 7-foot tall gentleman in a Predator suit — so no, it is not all CGI.

This is sure to come as a pleasant surprise to fans, in part because it pays homage to the Predator films of past. Actor Kevin Peter Hall – who stood at 7’2″ – played the monster in the original Arnold Schwarzenegger-led 1987 film. A similar tactic was used in the last entry in the franchise, 2010’s Predators.
Considering how wildly Black’s filmography varies – from the effects-heavy Iron Man 3 to the 70s drama The Nice Guys – there was no indication whether or not he would use this technique on The Predator. But But given the overwhelming amount of reboots and remakes occurring in Hollywood today it’s nice to see one that is at least somewhat sticking to its roots.
