When martial arts weren’t enough to take down Rita’s monsters, the Power Rangers call upon their trusty and powerful Dinozords to even the odds. When their individual might is outclassed, they then form into the massively powerful Megazord, a design that has remained popular even all these years later.

As the live-action reboot of Power Rangers brings a new design to the big screen, ComicBook.com’s Jim Viscardi talked to the original Red Ranger Austin St. John about why the original Megazord has remained so popular.

“Well, the originals were iconic because they were the first. I remember the old TV show Voltron which was big and had the robots, that’s what I saw and I loved it. I wanted one of those immediately, it shot the missiles, I can remember that to this day, so I think the first are iconic because they were the first. They weren’t incredibly well shot, I mean it was guys in costumes in a miniature city, so you know you can’t say that a lot of money was put into it, but they sure made a couple of billion dollars selling them.”

Power Rangers currently holds a 3.58 out of 5 on ComicBook.com’s anticipation rankings.

Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.”
