A Special Agent Harambe Comic Is Happening
Johnny J. Segura III of Lake Charles, La., is a tattooist-turned-comic book artist/writer, who best known for creating fan-art mashups of popular geek properties, such as Game of Thrones and Pokémon. He recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for Special Agent Harambe, a comic that will reveal the famous gorilla's interesting and secretive backstory.
"Upon doing research... I've found a lot of things that didn't add up in the assassination of Harambe," reads the Kickstarter description. "I say assassination because the assault on him was malicious in nature and could have been avoided. But alas, with his death came a unified world. Everyone seemed to be behind the fallen Harambe and wanted justice for his death. But, I think there was something else going on.
"And to honor his spirit, I have made a tale that showcases Harambe as the warrior that he was. A beautiful and smart creature who just wanted peace. And when that peace is ripped from him, he goes on a quest for revenge like no other. What is this Project Caeser? What will become of him after his shooting? Who is the shadowy politician who ordered his murder for knowing too much? All will be revealed in the 33 page epic that is Special Agent Harambe!"
On May 28, 2016, a day after his 17th birthday, Harambe was shot and killed at the Cincinnati Zoo. Why? A 3-year-old boy visiting the zoo that day wanted to go into the gorilla enclosure, so he climbed a wall, crawled through bushes, and then fell 15 feet into the enclosure's moat. The noise coming from the child piqued the interest of Harambe, who went over to the child, grabbed his arm, and drag him around like a rag doll for a few terrifying seconds. Fearing for the boy's life and with limited options, the zoo officials gave the order to shoot Harambe. The gorilla was killed with one gunshot.
