Age of Apocalypse: Little-Known Facts

#1 hits the stands today, and in recognition of the release of Marvel's first ongoing foray into that popular alternate universe, series writer David Lapham has taken to Twitter to tell fans a little bit more about the world in which the story takes place. Sort of. In a series of comical tweets this morning, Lapham has painted a picture of a world that's pretty grim--but without actually considering any of the violence, genocide, war, politics or any of the other things that generally define a dystopian world in fiction. Instead, he focuses on the decidedly more day-to-day and the result is a darkly humorous series of observations on the world (to which he has attached the Twitter hashtag #littleknownfactsfromaoa) that we'd like to see added to Marvel's Age of Apocalpse "bible" and made canon. They include:

• Did you know there is no toothpaste only baking soda in the Age of Apocalypse?
• Unfortunately Wal-Mart is alive and well.
• NO MORE MATH!
• Celestials refuse to pay for birth control as"anti-evolution".
• Be sluts and multiply declares Weapon Omega.
• Weapon Omega and Prophet share the same birthday and favorite cocktail. The Gimlet.
• Professor X's premature death is directly linked to the original Godzilla movie NEVER BEING MADE!
• Billions dead but George Bush lives!
• Library fines doubled.
• Gas only 50 cents a gallon as oil farting babies are commonplace.

A number of fans have chimed in with their own additions to the list, and Lapham is slowly adding more, so check out his Twitter feed for the latest. Age of Apocalypse #1 features art by Rob De Latorre and a handful of variant covers, with a main cover by '90s Age of Apocalypse veteran Humberto Ramos. The series was named one of Comicbook.com's top ten comics to watch in 2012, and it all starts here!
