Amazon

One little superhero movie crushes the opening weekend box office record, and suddenly everyone wants to be a geek blogger. The Daily is reporting that Amazon.com is planning on launching three new blogs. While most of the buzz around the report has centered around the possibility of Amazon launching a tech-blog killer to compete with Gizmodo and the like, we actually found the concept of one of the other blogs to be a little more interesting. In addition to the gadget blog and a photo app blog, Amazon will reportedly be launching a geek blog as well. According to The Daily, a comics and geek movies journalist told them that he had been approached by Amazon about contributing to a new blog, which would revolve around film, comics, TV and other geek-related activities. The Daily's source also suggested that Amazon had already hired several bloggers and an editor, and they would be launching their geek blog later this year. If the rumors are true, then it's not surprising that Amazon would be attempting to get into an area that has seen a surge in interest due to the rise of comic book movies. While Amazon might mark the first major online retailer to jump into the fray, several established entertainment related sites have launched geek targeted blogs in recent years. Hollywood Reporter has HeatVision, the LA Times has Hero Complex, and MTV has MTV Geek. And of course there are also several independent sites reporting on comic book related news like Comicbook.com :-)
