SnapperHero, according to Variety, will feature “influential social-media personae” as part of the series cast. These social media starlets will crowdsource inspiration from their audiences on YouTube, Vine, and Snapchat in order to develop aspects SnapperHero, such his powers and origin.
“A lot of it will be built on suggestions that are generated from the fans, and this is how we will build the audience for the show,” said series produce Bill Parks, a veteran of social media storytelling. He previously handled AT&T and Chernin Group’s @SummerBreakย Twitter program. “We start by saying, ‘Hey, we are going to make this, so what are your suggestions?’ And we will show them how it’s being made along the way.”
Like most videos uploaded to Snapchat, the SnapperHero videos will only be available for 24 hours after release, something that the creators hope will make the series a unique viewing experience.
“It’s like a slice of cake. You eat it, and it’s really delicious, and then it’s gone,” said Shaun McBride, also known as artist “Shonduras” on Snapchat, who will be a prat of SnapperHero‘s cast, as well as creative director.
Other social celebrity cast members include Anna Akana, known for her short films on YouTube, Freddie Wong, from the YouTube channel RocketJump, Harley Morenstein, host of the Epic Meal Time YouTube cooking show, and Jasmeet Singh, a comedian known by the social media handle “JusReign.”
The series is expected to debut 12 episode over four weeks, beginning early in 2015, with crowdsourced plotlines and details.
“The tone of the show is fundamentally comedic and light: What happens to these real-life influencers if powers are bestowed upon them,” Parks said. “We are not trying to be a big-budget action show.”
Expect to see the first episode of SnapperHero on Snapchat sometime soon.
