Comic Book Previews for September 2nd, 2009

Before you hit the beach, the mountains or some other locale for the Labor Day holiday, don't forget to swing by your local comic book shop and pick up this week's new releases! Image Comics continues to serve up plenty for fans of their runaway hit series Chew. Issue four bows this week, along with reprints of the first three issues! This is your chance to catch up on the adventures of Detective Tony Chu all in one week! Pete Wentz, frontman for the band Fall Out Boy, sees his co-creation debut this week with the first issue of Fall Out Toy Works, the first in a five issue limited series! Mice Templar: Destiny #3 also lands in stores this week, giving fans of Image even more to be excited about!

From DC Comics comes several big books this week as well! Supergirl Annual #1 promises the full origin of Superwoman and the new life for Supergirl as Linda Lang! Two limited series wrap-up this week as both Solomon Grundy and Dead Romeo wrap; however don't despair, as Justice League: Cry for Justice #3 comes out as well. Fans of Detective Comics are in for a treat, as issue number 857 follows on the heels of last week's issue 856! How will Batwoman's first story arc end in her face-off against madwoman Alice? Dead heroes and villains aren't the only ones making a comeback! The 1988 mini-series Cosmic Odyssey gets reprinted, capturing all of Jim Starlin and Mike Mignola's glory!

One certainly isn't the loneliest number at Marvel this week, as several number one issues of different series will make their way into comic book shops. Expect to see titles such as Strange Tales , Starr the Slayer and Marvel Zombies Return: Spider-Man debuting! Not all the action is reserved for new titles, Invincible Iron Man #17 promises a topsy-turvy series of events for Tony Stark as he seeks to regain footing in a world run by Norman Osborn. Deadpool #15 kicks off a new story line for the merc, as he pulls up stakes and heads to San Francisco! Is the city by the bay ready?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #28 leads the way for Dark Horse Comics this week, along with issue three of Witchfinder: In the Service of Angels. Mike Mignola's quirky investigator Edward Grey's story continues in Witchfinder, as he continues to track down a rampaging fiend. In the pages of Buffy, the peace and meditation Buffy has is about to come to a screeching halt in the land of, well, Oz (werewolf, not Emerald City). Dynamite Entertainment brings The Boys #34 to shelves everywhere on Wednesday, along with Army of Darkness #24. Stock up! Pack up! No matter where you head this Labor Day, be sure to pack plenty of reading material!
