'THE INFINITE' #3 is getting a variant cover from J. Scott Campbell ("Gen," "Amazing Spider-Man") next month. The cover features characters Em and Dual. 'THE INFINITE' is written by Robert Kirkman and illustrated by Robert Liefeld. "Like so many other fans, I absolutely love J. Scott Campbell!" said Liefeld. "He's one of the most popular and influential artists of the modern age. His cover for THE INFINITE #3 exceeded all expectations. He perfectly captured the dynamic between Emily and Duel, both of whom are integral characters in the saga of THE INFINITE! Don't miss out on Campbell's fantastic contribution to THE INFINITE!"In addition to the Campbell cover, Image is publishing a 48 page deluxe edition of the issue, featuring a ton of behind the scenes stuff. Sketches and illustrations by Liefeld, as well as notes and script pages by Kirkman. Pretty cool stuff. I love Image Comics' commitment to variant covers. In an age where 100,000 copies of an issue can be sold, the thought of a comic book being a collectible is less likely than in the past. Variant covers, which are always printed in smaller runs, offer the chance for readers to latch on to a collectible. Plus, if they really like the comic or the illustrator, they pick up another copy. That's good for everyone involved. And when you throw in a deluxe edition every now and then for an extra three bucks, it gives TRUE insight into the creative process. Not only does it help the general reader understand what it takes to pull off a single issue of a comic, but it helps aspiring creators and illustrators learn their craft better. 'THE INFINITE' #3 hits shelves October 5th. The standard and variant covers are each $2.99, and the deluxe edition is $5.99.
