Much like Transformers, Star Wars, and The Walking Dead, the Fast & Furious franchise will be following the Marvel Studios format and is now developing spinoff movies for characters in its globally popular franchise.

"We've written out story lines for various characters," Fast & Furious franchise star, Vin Diesel told Variety. "We've been playing with it for a long time. It's a very rich property and we're committed to treating with a lot of class."

The action star didn't spill which characters were specifically being eyed for individual films but Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has alluded to a standalone film for his Luke Hobbs character in the past.

"We're certainly in conversations about how we can expand the franchise now," says Donna Langley, Universal Pictures Chairman. "It's an ensemble cast and there's room to bring characters in and out."

For now, though, the focus is on rounding out the Fast & Furious franchise's final trilogy of films, culminating with a tenth installment.

Fast & Furious 8 is scheduled for release April 14, 2017.
