Just like his fans, actor Frank Grillo hopes that Crossbones will return for future Marvel movies.

Grillo, who played Crossbones' alter ego Brock Rumlow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, said in an interview with Collider that he is "cautiously optimistic" that he will be involved with "the next few Marvel movies." While Grillo couldn't share any details between him and the studio, he did say that he holds a multi-contract deal. Based on Grillo's comments, however, it sounds like even he is still in the dark on Crossbone's future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While Rumlow was introduced as a rogue S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in Winter Soldier, his face was horrifically burned at the film's climax. Disfigured and left with an even sharper axe to grind against Captain America and The Falcon, Rumlow is primed for his evolution into Crossbones, one of Captain America's primary rivals.

Should Grillo bring the Crossbones character to life, it would most likely be in the next Captain America sequel, "Captain America: Civil War." But with Tony Stark and Iron Man serving as Captain America's primary antagonist, it's difficult to imagine that Crossbones would play a significant part in the story.

We'll find out more as Captain America: Civil War moves closer to its May 6, 2016 release date.
