The list of directors who will work on the sixth season of HBO's Game of Thrones has been unveiled, and it includes several returning series veterans as well as two choice newcomers.
As is standard practice for the series, each director will direct two episodes consecutively. This is to account for the show's unique threaded narrative and its time intensive shooting schedule.
Episodes 1 & 2 will be directed by Jeremy Podeswa. He previously worked on Tudors and Boardwalk Empire, and directed the Season 5 episodes "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken" and "Kill the Boy."
Episodes 3 & 4 belong to Daniel Sackheim, a series newcomer. His past directorial work includes episodes of The X-Files, Lie to Me, House and The Americans.
Jack Bender is another newcomer, and he'll direct episodes 5 & 6. Bender's name will be familiar to fans of Lost, as he directed 38 episodes of the ABC series. He's also directed episodes of Under the Dome, The Last Ship and Alcatraz.
Mark Mylod will return to direct episodes 7 & 8. He directed the Season 5 episodes "High Sparrow" and "Sons of the Harpy," and has also worked on Shameless and Entourage.
Game of Thrones fans will likely be excited to hear that Miguel Sapochnik will direct the final two episodes of Season 6. Sapochnik directed the Season 5 episodes "The Gift" and "Hardhome," the latter being arguably the best episode of the season, if not the entire series to date.
Game of Thrones Season 6 will air on HBO in spring 2016.
