Beetlejuice and Commander in Chief star Geena Davis has been cast in the upcoming reboot of The Exorcist, Variety reports.

Here's how the trade describes the project -- a TV series airing on FOX -- and Davis's role:

A modernized TV take on William Blatty's 1971 book and the film, Fox's "Exorcist" is a serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family's case of horrifying demonic possession and confronting the face of true evil. Davis will play Angela Rance, who is described as regal and proud, but weighed down by stress. She does everything she can to stay positive and keep her faith even though her family is currently struggling. She can't help but think if perhaps her nightmares about a demon are a sign of what's wrong.

Photography is starting to happen on a number of fall pilots, so expect more updates on the status of The Exorcist soon. The original film, directed by William Friedkin, was a huge hit in 1978 and spawned three sequels as well as multiple versions of The Exorcist and its 2004 prequel Exorcist: The Beginning available in "director's cuts" on home video.
