Wizard World Comic Con announced today that their premium monthly subscription box,ComicConBox, will include a very limited edition, exclusive variant cover of The Batman Adventures #12, featuring the story "Batgirl: Day One" inside their next box.
This iconic exclusive variant comic has Barbara Gordon dressing up as Batgirl for a costume party which ends up being crashed by Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman. Most notably, this is the first comic book appearance of Harley Quinn, who originated in Batman: The Animated Series, the world of which was the basis for The Batman Adventures.
The issue was originally published in 1993, and first printings go for hundreds of dollars online -- sometimes thousands if they're CGC graded. With Harley Quinn now a best-selling title for DC and the character appearing in Suicide Squad next year, odds are it will continue to be a hot seller for the foreseeable future. Due to the relatively small print run of The Batman Adventures compared to best-sellers of the time, the issue generally goes for more than even comparable issues from the same time period like the first appearance of Deadpool.
The exclusive variant cover art for ComicConBox, by Rick Burchett, pays homage to the classic DC Comics cover "Tango with Evil" by Alex Ross. Here, of course, it features Harley and Poison Ivy, who recently have been confirmed to be in a romantic (if not monogamous) relationship in the mainstream DC Universe.
We've been told there are a very limited supply of these comic variants, and once sold out, they will never be republished again. This month's ComicConBox will also be filled with a number of other licensed DC Comics products (toys, artwork, etc).
Fans can order The Batman Adventures #12 exclusive variant at ComicConBox.com.
