Image Comics is having a pretty good year. The creator-driven publisher announced they'll be moving to Portland, and several of their most popular series have been optioned for television series. Now, another bestselling series from Image Comics is being adapted for the small screen. So, if you're a fan of Trees, then it is time you got excited.

Like, as in the graphic novel - not the plant.

Deadline is reporting that NBCUniversal International Studios has optioned rights to Trees. Hardy Son & Baker, a London-based production company, will be overseeing the project. There's no word yet on whether creators Warren Ellis and Jason Howard will contribute to the TV series, but fans are hopeful the pair are involved.

If you are not familiar with Trees, then you should know the series was created in 2014 by Warren and Jason. The comic is set in the future, about ten years after Earth is calmly invaded by aliens who stand amongst human as if they were trees.

The extraterrestrials do not communicate with humans or appear to acknowledge mankind's status as intelligent life. Trees shows how the world reacts to the alien's silent, pressuring presence. Combining both sci-fi drama and crime, Trees is a mash-up of genres which will surely please fans.

Founded by actor Tom Hardy, Hardy Son & Baker will also be adapting Adam Hamdy's Pendulum. The production studio, which opened in 2012, has gained a reputation for producing high-end content with bold international appeal. The reputation has eased fans of Trees who are anxious over whether the comic can be adapted faithfully for TV.

Trees isn't the only Image Comics title that's being turned into a television show. Black Magick was optioned by Groundswell Productions earlier this year.

For those unfamiliar with the series, Black Magick follows Rowan Black as she works as a detective in the fictional city of Portsmouth. However, solving crimes isn't what drags Rowan into danger; Rather, her resurfacing past throws Rowan's life into chaos as she discover the truth of who she is - and who she shall become. Rowan comes from a long line of witches, and th series shows her struggle to align her professional and personal life as her growing powers threaten humanity's safety.

And, last year, it was announced that The Wicked + The Divine was being optioned. Universal Television secured the rights for Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick's Milkfed Criminal Masterminds who will produce the project.

Currently, there's no word on where Trees will air or when it will premiere. If you'd like to read a synopsis of the intriguing title, then you can check it out below:

"Ten years after they landed. All over the world. And they did nothing, standing on the surface of the Earth like trees, exerting their silent pressure on the world, as if there were no-one here and nothing under foot. Ten years since we learned that there is intelligent life in the universe, but that they did not recognize us as intelligent or alive."
