Judge Dredd is one of Britain's best known comic book characters. Judge Dredd was created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra, and he first appeared in the second issue of 2000 AD comic magazine in 1977. Judge Dredd is a law enforcement officer of the future, who lives in a violent city called Mega-City One. Because much of the world has been damaged by conflicts, judges in Mega-City One have the authority to act as police, judge, jury and executioner. Judge Dredd carries a handgun called his "Lawgiver," and he is fond of telling criminals, "I am the law!" While there already was a Judge Dredd movie made back in 1995, we would prefer to think there wasn't. The movie starred Sylvester Stallone and was a critical and commercial flop. The new Judge Dredd movie was just announced by Rebellion and 2000 AD. DNA Films will be the movie production company behind the new Judge Dredd movie. In the past, DNA Films has produced sci-fi movies like Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later. Not much information is currently available on the Judge Dredd movie, other than that it will go into production in 2009. Jason Kingsley, who is CEO and Creative Director of Rebellion, said, "We can't give away too many details at this point, but we're looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen."
