Godzilla fans, go ahead and get your popcorn ready. The massive kaiju may be on the back-burner for now, but Legendary Pictures has big plans for the beast. In 2014, the studio revived the Japanese monster in a blockbuster reboot, and Legendary has plans to create a cinematic universe about the behemoth. In years to come, fans will get to see Godzilla go head-to-head with King Kong thanks to the studio, and now a massive reference to the King of Monsters can be seen in a new clip from Kong: Skull Island.
Thanks to Yahoo, an exclusive clip from the action-packed thriller can be seen. The video shows Samuel L. Jackson's character demand answers from a scientist who is played by John Goodman. With a gun leveled to his head, the latter man tells Jackson's man that he's part of a secret organization on the hunt for ancient beasts.
"Ancient species owned this Earth long before mankind, and if we can't keep our heads buried in the sand, they will take it back," Goodman says.
"My agency is known as Monarch. We specialize in the hunt of massive unidentified terrestrial organisms."
Of course, Monarch will be a familiar name for Godzilla fans. The 2014 introduced the name through Project Monarch as the group tried to slay the nuclear beast back in 1954 with little success. As for the massive unidentified creatures phrase, the line is a direct reference to MUTO. The acronym refers to creatures like Gozilla or King Kong, and Monarch is clearly interested in reigning these beasts in.
Kong: Skull Island is the second installment of Legendary Pictures' Godzilla-Kong franchise. The universe debuted in 2014 with Godzilla whose sequel is slated to debut in 2019. Then, by 2020, the two monsters will go head-to-head in Godzilla vs. Kong.
You can check out the film's synopsis below:
