The Super Mario franchise is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and creator Shigeru Miyamoto has taken the opportunity to address certain myths and questions about the games.

While he confirms certain popular myths, like the origin of Mario's name, and denies others, like the theory that Bob-ombs become Boos after they explode, the most interesting confirmation has to be of a theory concerning Super Mario Bros. 3.

The third entry in the Super Mario franchise had a stage play aesthetic, complete with curtain calls and level design that featured propped up blocks and mechanical devices to move platforms. Fans have long theorized that Mario's adventure in that game was just a performance put on for an audience, and that he was not ever in any actual danger. Miyamoto confirms this theory is correct.

Does this change how you view the Mario mythos? Probably not as much as knowing that Miyamoto is Bowser Jr.'s mother does.
