Welcome to the opening rounds of ComicBook.Com's Multiversal March Madness. Though DC and Marvel Comics are breaking the piggy on their endless realities with events Convergence and Secret Wars later this spring, the bracket fever from the NCAA March Madness has our minds stuck on the tournament style crossover event.

Like we explained in our opening post, we're leaving to you to choose the winners in our own cross-company tournament. We're in throwing in a nifty secret prize for the players with a winning bracket. But enough chit-chat. It's time to get in the super-powered paint with the first round's combatants.

Domain of Apocalypse (Age of Apocalypse) Vs. King James' England (Marvel 1602)

Domain of Apocalypse (Age of Apocalypse)

Stats: What would the world look like if Professor X dies before forming the X-Men? Pretty dark, it turns out. His best friend, Magneto, eventually forms his own X-Men in Xavier's memory, but not in time to stop Apocalypse's ascent to authoritarian power. Now Apocalypse rules with an iron fist. Humans are hunted and, and Magneto's rebel X-Men are their only hope of survival.

Advantage: Anyone who lives in what is arguably the X-Men's darkest timeline is tough as nails.

Disadvantage: Dressing like you're part of a glam rock group isn't the most practical of survival skills.

King James' England (1602)

Instead of the 1960s, this Age of Marvels began in the 1600s. The Marvel Universe by way of Victorian England puts subtle twists on the Silver Age Marvel characters we know and love. For instance, Dr. Strange is an occult advisor to the queen, Nick Fury is her spymaster and Angela is a deadly Witch Hunter.

Advantage: If the original series' insane twist taught us anything, it's that you never know who will show up or how.

Disadvantage: The dress code is entirely Ren Faire.

Who will win: Marvel's Age of Apocalypse, or Marvel's Age of Puffy shirts? Cast their fates in the poll below. Polling ends on March 24 at 6:30 p.m. EST.
