Pacific Rim fans, you have waited long enough. For years, the franchise remained at a stand-still while Hollywood shuffled its feet in making a sequel to Guillermo Del Toro’s kaiju flick. With the second movie now in production, plenty of fans are awaiting news about the thrilling blockbuster, and it looks like the film’s director has just dropped a major gift for his followers online. Over on Instagram, Steven DeKnight shared the first official logo for Pacific Rim: Uprising.
The director posted the crisp picture with little context save for a caption that reads, “2018.” The logo itself looks similar to the original movie’s as it houses metallic lettering. Adorned with sharp edges, the blocky font looks stark against the logo’s black background, but there is a colorful blip on the image. A bright red-orange gouge can be seen ripped between the title, and the rift looks like a massive beast could come crawling out of it at anytime.
So, really, it’s a good thing John Boyega is already on set. The Star Wars actor would no doubt be able to wrestle down any monsters if he had a Jaeger at hand.
Boyega will be joined by Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, and Jing Tian in Pacific Rim: Uprising. The cast also includes Levi Meaden, Adria Arjona, Rahart Adams. Karan Brar, Nick E. Tarabay, Ivanna Sakhno, Zhang Jin, Mackenyu, Shyrley Rodriguez, Wesley Wong, Lily Ji, Chen Zitong, Lan Yingying, and Qian Yongchen.
Pacific Rim: Uprising is currently being filmed, and is expected to hit theaters February 23, 2018. The original Pacific Rim earned $411 million worldwide, with $101 million of that coming domestically.
