There’s been a lot of debate online over whether Benedict Cumberbatch will appear in Star Wars Episode VII. Several entertainment blogs have sworn that he is a part of the movie, while the trade press has insisted that he is not.
Even though Benedict Cumberbatch and his reps have denied the rumors, the rumors still continue to make headlines. Now, a new quote by J.J. Abrams might very well lend credence to those that are insisting that Cumberbatch will be part of Star Wars.
J.J. Abrams has been doing promotion for his upcoming FOX series Almost Human, which means the press is using the opportunity to ask him about Star Wars. According to a tweet from LA Time staff writer Yvonne Villarreal, here is what J.J. Abrams had to stay on Star Wars casting and Benedict Cumberbatch.
“JJ Abrams on #StarWars: ‘We're working our asses off trying to get things in place w/ casting.’ Benedict Cumberbatch? ‘I love that guy.’”
While it’s not exactly a confirmation, it’s not a denial either. Given the rumors about Benedict Cumberbatch being cast in Star Wars, J.J. Abrams’ answer certainly makes it seem like he’s laying the groundwork for a possible announcement.
