Gambit - Tatum

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

star Taylor Kitsch has voiced support for Channing Tatum's Gambit hopes. Kitsch, who played Gambit in the critically-panned spinoff/prequel, said in a newspaper interview that while he would reprise the Gambit role "under the right circumstances," he has no problem with the idea of Tatum taking over the character. "If he does it, good on him," he told the Chicago Tribune. "He'll kill it. It's such cool character. Whoever plays him will be a lucky guy."

"I'm not going to be like 'Oh my God, why don't I get to play him?' If it's meant to be, it's meant to be," Kitsch added. "And if not, I'll move on. If they cast [Tatum], I wish him nothing but the best. I hope he kicks the [crap] out of it." Tatum had mentioned an interest in taking over the role during a White House Down press conference in 2013. Veteran superhero producer Lauren Shuler Donner, who has been attached to all of the X-Men films, recently said she'd love to see it happen. The Friday Night Lights star can't seem to buy a break when it comes to big-budget tentpole movies. In spite of a hardcore fan following and generally strong critical response to his performances, he's had a trio of high-profile flops in X-Men Origins: WolverineJohn Carter and Battleship, with nothing comparably high-grossing to offset their impact on his professional reputation. Tatum, meanwhile, is currently supporting the G.I. Joe and 21 Jump Street franchises and has had hits like Magic Mike and White House Down in between. He's currently "killing it" at the box office, voicing Superman in The Lego Movie.
