The Walking Dead: Ezekiel's 5 Best Moments
The Walking Dead spent last Sunday crushing the souls, and turning the stomachs, of its entire [...]
Introductions
The show will give a very different introduction to Ezekiel than the comics did, that's pretty easy to see at this point. Carol and Morgan are the ones we've seen meet the new king, but it was actually Rick and Jesus who said hello first in the source material.
However, there's still hope they will keep the setting and tone of the first meeting very similar.
In the comics, Ezekiel is sitting on a throne in a high school theater. After Rick introduces himself, Ezekiel agrees that their communities need to join together in order to defeat Negan.
This is where Ezekiel makes things really interesting.
He brings Dwight out onto the stage. If you recall, Dwight is Negan's right hand man. Ezekiel informs Rick that Dwight hates Negan, and he is the key to taking down their enemy.
Talk about making a crazy first impression.
prevnextMeeting Michonne
One departure from the comics that we can be almost certain about, is Ezekiel's relationship with Michonne. The two have a long love story throughout the pages, but she is with Rick in the TV series.
When the two first meet, Ezekiel is immediately taken by Michonne's strength and attitude. At first, she sees his act as weak and pathetic, but he warms her heart with time.
Later that evening, Ezekiel takes Michonne outside at a party. He knows she thinks he is full of it, so he lays everything on the table. He tells her his real story, why people call him King, and what he truly
thinks of this wild world they live in.
After this conversation, both Michonne and the fans start falling deeply in love with King Ezekiel.
prevnextShiva In Action
We've mentioned Ezekiel has a pet tiger, right? At least once or twice?
Shiva acts as a wondrous body guard for a man of such importance as the King. She won't hesitate to snarl at an enemy and scare them off, but she melts in the King's hand like a stick of butter. When he speaks, the vicious beast turns into a purring kitten.
This isn't to say Ezekiel never crosses to turn her loose on an enemy.
During a battle with the Saviors, the first time Ezekiel and his people fight alongside Rick, The King lets Shiva loose on a group of enemy soldiers. The men tremble at the sight of a tiger coming at them, and she tears through the flesh of men without hesitation.
There's one frame where Shiva is seen eating all the way through a man as the other troops starting marching past. It's powerful imagery, almost as powerful as Shiva herself.
prevnextPillowtalk
During an important battle in the war against Negan, Ezekiel loses a lot of his best men on his watch. He takes their deaths very personally, and he makes some cowardly decisions in the aftermath.
Because of his weaknesses, Michonne has a harder time loving him, She is a broken individual, and only wants to be in the hands of a strong man.
One night, while Michonne is sleeping, Ezekiel decides to pour his heart out. He starts telling her all about what she means to him, how he feels about his strength, and what he will do to fix it all.
He lets her know that it's her he wants, no matter what, and he will be stronger if it's what she needs.
Ezekiel finishes by saying he will try again with better words in the morning, when she is awake. As he walks away, Michonne's eyes reveal that she had been listening the entire time.
prevnextNever Giving Up
After the war, there is a time lapse of a couple of years. Society is re-building, and relationships are being given the chance to grow.
Ezekiel and Michonne, however, are on rocky terms.
The King has stepped down from his role, and just wants to focus on living his life. Michonne is confused about everything, and runs off to be a part of the fishing community they have ties to.
Even though she keeps running, Ezekiel never stops pursuing Michonne. He knows they are in love, and he doesn't want to sacrifice that for anything.
One day, as she is coming back in from the ocean, Ezekiel waits with Rick for a chance at talking to her.
Michonne completely ignores him.
Ezekiel is defeated in this moment, and it's one of the most human interactions he ever has throughout the series.
The best part? He still won't give up.
Ezekiel makes his debut on The Walking Dead in this Sunday's The Well. Will you be watching?
