Daredevil villain Colin Farrell and X-Men Origins: Wolverine's Gambit, Taylor Kitsch, may be the stars of HBO's second season of True Detective, if reports circulating today are true.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Farrell's name has been an open secret among a number of reporters for some time, and while the deal is not yet done, the fact that it's now out there means everyone is going to join in and confirm what they think they know.

They say that Kitsch is one of the most frequently-repeated names in a list of candidates HBO has approached, including Josh Brolin, Joaquin Phoenix, Russell Crowe, Jessica Chastain and Christian Bale. Other sites have been even more enthusiastic, painting him as close to getting the gig as is Farrell.

EW further reports that the second season will likely feature three leads and be set in California -- but not where you think.

"Not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser-known venues of California," creator Nic Pizzolatto said during a recent interview. "And we're going to try to capture a certain psycho-sphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in season one."
