The numbers are in. Summit Entertainment has announced that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 took in $30.4 million from Thursday 10 PM and Friday Midnight showings in over 3,000 theaters.
The box office take was enough to set a new record for opening night for the Twilight franchise. The previous Twilight record had been held by The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, which took in $30.3 million on its opening night.
Of course, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 benefited from squeezing in two showings, while Part 1 only had a midnight showing. It was also not an overall opening night record, as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 still holds the title with $43.5 million. Still, it’s an impressive number of fans that made the late night journey to see a premiere showing.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 expands to 4,070 theaters today, and it will be interesting to see where it’s opening day totals finish.
