Next year, Jurassic World 2 will begin production in February, a fact that has excited many fans. The film's predecessor revived the Jurassic Park franchise in a big way, so expectations for the sequel are understandably high. However, executive producer and writer Colin Trevorrow has kept quiet about the film's storyline until now. In a recent interview, Trevorrow shared his thoughts on Jurassic World 2 and said it will deal with "complex issues."

The producer spoke with El Mundo and said the second film will be intentionally different from the first. "The second part will deliberately be very different" and "explore new avenues."

Director Juan Antonio Boyano also told the site that the film will explore man's relationship with animals. He said Jurassic World 2 will depict "man's relationship with animals. Dinosaurs are a parable of the treatment of animals today: abuse, experiments in medicine, pets, wild animals in zoos [that feel] like prisons."

Bayona will direct the film while Colin Trevorrow co-writes the script and acts as executive producer. The latter said both Baryona and he took a few weeks to meet in Los Angeles to outline the story. The pair teamed up to create a brand-new version of Jurassic World that fans have never seen before.

"You have to tell a story in a new way," Trevorrow explained. "This is the Jurassic Park of the new generation. With the first Jurassic World, we wanted a simple and direct film that [could] reach everyone. That's something that James Cameron understands better than anyone...You can appeal to people around the world, a 15-year-old in China or Florida with universal ideas."

The writer also spoke with Collider about the much-anticipated film this year. Trevorrow told the site that Jurassic World 2 would have a "more suspenseful and scary" story.

"It will be more suspenseful and scary. It's just the way it's designed," he said. "It's the way the story plays out. I knew I wanted [J.A.] Bayona to direct it long before anyone ever heard that was a possibility, so the whole thing was just built around his skill set"

However, Trevorrow did confess there would be one element of Jurassic World missing from its sequel: militarized dinosaurs. "I'm not that interested in militarized dinosaurs, at least not in practice," he admitted. "I liked it in theory as the pipe dream of a lunatic."

The writer's words expand on several of his previous comments. Trevorrow told Wired Magazine the sequel would focus on cloning dinosaurs. And, what's more, he stressed Jurassic World 2 wouldn't focus on "a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island" since its been done too much.

Whatever does happen in the sequel will surely set up a third and final Jurassic World film. Bayona told LRM the franchise would be adapted into a trilogy courtesy of Trevorrow.

"It's very interesting," he said. "The whole Jurassic World is a trilogy that Colin Trevorrow has envisioned. We're writing the second chapter, and it's very interesting where he's leading the story. I grew up watching Steven Spielberg movies and I love those movies and the legacy, so it's a question of being truthful to the legacy and at the same time, bringing new stuff that people will appreciate. We are still six months ahead of shooting, and so far, so good. It's very exciting right now."

Jurassic World 2 is slated to come out on June 22, 2018.
