Following on the heels of yesterday's social media Q&A between X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer and fans, 29th Century Fox made the first full trailer for the film available online today.
It's widely expected to be attached to prints of Thor: The Dark World, opening in much of the world on Friday and in the U.S. next week.
Last week, on the same day Marvel Studios released the first full trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Fox released a ten-second teaser for today's trailer. Both X-Men: Days of Future Past and Avengers: Age of Ultron--which will follow Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity--will feature the character of Quicksilver, portrayed here by Evan Peters. Peters's Kick-Ass co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson is reported to star as the character in the Avengers sequel.
X-Men: Days of Future Past takes place following the events of this summer's The Wolverine and sends Logan into the past, where he encounters the younger X-Men from X-Men: First Class in the hopes of stopping a catastrophic historical event that will change the fate of mutantkind. Sending him back? The present-day Magneto and Charles Xavier, as seen in X-Men, X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand. X-Men and X2 director Bryan Singer returns to direct the film, which many fans expect to clear up not only continuity issues raised in First Class and the Wolverine solo films but also to "fix" some of the perceived problems caused in the franchise when Singer left to make Superman Returns, leaving Brett Ratner to make the critically-lambasted The Last Stand.
Check out the trailer below. X-Men: Days of Future Past is due in theaters on May 23, 2014.
