Stephen King fans rejoiced last week when a new TV series was announced that would feature many of his stories’ beloved characters. Castle Rock would center around the fictional Maine town in which many of his books take place, coming from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company. The plans are getting a little more firm, as Hulu has announced they’ll be home to the ambitious project by releasing an official synopsis.

The show’s synopsis is as follows:

“A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller โ€” a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.”

The 10-episode series will begin production later this year.

Stephen King films often contain Easter Eggs that reference other stories set in his fictional universe, but this new series will take things to the next level. It could be risky, as there would be pressure to include stories that don’t directly tie into the town, but it could surprise viewers with how connections are made.
