The Showoff has won the Intercontinental Championship at No Mercy. Dolph Ziggler beat the Miz to win the championship, and simultaneously save his WWE career. Ziggler had put up his career in order to win another shot at the Intercontinental Championship, which the Miz had gleefully accepted.

Ziggler overcame run ins from his former staplemates in the Spirit Squad and interference from Miz’s wife Maryse to win the title from the Miz. It was only after the referee banned the Spirit Squad and Maryse from ringside that Ziggler finally pinned the Miz clean in the center of the ring.

The win ends a string of recent bad luck for Ziggler, dating back to Wrestlemania. Ziggler has lost several high profile matches, including a match against Dean Ambrose for the WWE World Championship at Summerslam.

This is Ziggler’s fifth Intercontinental Championship reign. His previous championship run was from December 2014 to January 2015.

This marks the end of Miz’s nearly 190 day Intercontinental Championship reign. The Miz won the belt the day after Wrestlemania and has successfully retained the title in matches against the likes of Zack Ryder and Darren Young.

The Miz’s Intercontinental title reign also coincided with a bit of a career revival, thanks to his running feud with Smackdown GM Daniel Bryan. The Miz laid into Bryan on an episode of Talking Smack after Bryan criticized Miz’s “safe” wrestling style. The Miz responded by pointing out that Bryan had promised his fans he’d return from a string of injuries, but had opted to retire instead.
