We here at Comicbook.com have a growing interest in how you, the readers are spending your time and money when it comes to the big new movies releasing each week!

With our new Anticipation Rankings, we can get a sense of how a movie will do with fans before its release date arrives; however, the real measure is what happens when the film is in theaters! With our Big Movie Battle, we will measure how fans are reacting to each new release – and how those movies compare to one another!

This week, Japanese manga/anime tries to achieve Hollywood blockbuster success, with the release of Scarlett Johansson’s Ghost In The Shell. However, Ghost is going to have more stiff competition than it may be able to handle, as the Power Rangers movie will ride strong word-of-mouth buzz into its second week of release, and Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast will continue making serious buck in its third week out.

So who is going to win this week’s Big Movie Battle? As you can see below:

Ghost In Shell Box Office Beauty Beast Power Rangers

Ghost In The Shell currently holds a 3.54/5 ranking in our user anticipation ratings – sign that there is a considerable niche audience (manga/anime fans) that are interested in seeing the film. Mainstream interest doesn’t really seem to be there right now, so while GITS could come out with a respectable opening this week, early indication is that once the dedicated fans have seen it, this film could quickly wither on the vine, domestically. How a Hollywood “whitewashed” version of a popular Japanese franchise will fare internationally is anyone’s guess.

Power Rangers is the latest attempt to turn an older franchise property into a new box office smash – and so far, it seems Lionsgate has been mildly successful in doing that. The film has shot up to a 3.98/5 rating in our User Rankings, which is a good sign that Power Rangers will have good word of mouth carrying it into week two.

With the primary fanbase generally happy with director Dean Israelite’s new vision of the Rangers mythos, mainstream viewers who were on the fence now have all the reason they need to buy a ticket. If more families and teens turn out to see the film, Power Rangers could have a good second week – even better than fellow Japanese import, Ghost In The Shell. If a cast of young unknowns can defeat ScarJo at the box office, that would be a major upset.

Beauty and the Beast was a Disney animated classic, and the live-action version of the film arrived with worldwide fan anticipation behind it. That fan anticipation has grown into a big box office haul, as Beauty and the Beast is already on final stretch toward a billion-dollar milestone, going into week three!

Beauty and the Beast transformed a 3.31/5 Anticipation Rating into a 4.12/5 User Rating once people saw the film; that positive response has only gotten greater, week to week, and having dominated the box office in both preceding weeks, there’s little reason to think that Beauty can’t squeeze enough leftover juice to win out over two big competitors this week.

Once you’ve voted, come back early after opening weekend when we’ll compare your ratings to the box office rankings, to see if fans got their due!
