Earlier this week, A24 debuted its ominous new poster for their thriller It Comes at Night, starring Joel Edgerton. Now, horror fans get their first taste of what to expect from the film, and although we still don’t know much more about the plot, the teaser trailer gives us a taste of what’s at stake in the film.

The film’s synopsis is as follows:
“A man (Joel Edgerton) learns that the evil stalking his family home may be only a prelude to horrors that come from within.
Secure within a desolate home as an unnatural threat terrorizes the world, the tenuous domestic order he has established with his wife and son is put to the ultimate test with the arrival of a desperate young family seeking refuge.
Despite the best intentions of both families, paranoia and mistrust boil over as the horrors outside creep ever-closer, awakening something hidden and monstrous within him as he learns that the protection of his family comes at the cost of his soul.”
The film also stars Riley Keough, Carmen Ejogo, Christopher Abbot, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. and was directed by Trey Edwards.

In 2016, A24 gave us Green Room, The Witch, and Swiss Army Man, which were easily some of the most interesting and compelling movies of the year. In 2015, Edgerton starred in The Gift, which he also wrote and directed, which expertly walked the line between drama and horror.
The distribution company always has compelling marketing campaigns that manage to pique the interests of audiences while not giving much away. It’s tough to say what It Comes at Night could be about, but between the poster and the teaser trailer, we’re incredibly interested.
It Comes at Night lands in theaters August 25.
