Writer and actor Simons Pegg has been teasing the trailer for days, beginning on May 17, with a tweet reading, “3 days until the new trailer drops and Star Trek Beyond goes boldly out of the darkness.”
The next day, he reiterated the point with a tweet simply reading “2 days. #GoBeyond” that had a photo of the Starfleet headquarters sign attached.
Finally, today, Pegg tweeted about the trailer once more, writing, and “Keenser says ‘relax!’ One more day until the new Star Trek Beyond trailer finally drops. #GoBeyond” The tweet included a photo of the alien called Keenser.
The first trailer for Star Trek Beyond was released in December 2015. It turned heads through it use of the Beastie Boys’ song “Sabotage,” inviting criticism from some fans. Pegg himself had some reservations about the trailer.
Star Trek Beyond is the third film in the rebooted Star Trek movie timeline, following 2009’s Star Trek and the sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness.
In Star Trek Beyond, stranded on a hostile planet, Capt. Kirk, Spock, and the rest of the Enterprise crew face an alien threat.
Based on Gene Roddenberry’s classic sci-fi television series, Star Trek Beyond is directed by Justin Lin from a screenplay by Simon Pegg, Doug Jung, Roberto Orci, John D. Payne and Patrick McCay. The films stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella. Filming began in Vancouver in June 2015.
