One of the more popular trends in horror films has been making homages and throwbacks to cinema from the ’80s, often invoking the term “throwback.” It Follows is one of the prime examples of tapping into a nostalgic tone as a supernatural slasher, inspiring many imitators. A new horror film, The Void, evokes similarities to horror films from the ’80s, but from the looks of things, it does so in the most disgusting way possible.

The film synopsis is as follows:
“Cloaked, cult-like figures trap a police officer (Aaron Poole), patients and staffers inside a hospital that is a gateway to evil.”
As you can see in the trailer, the film showcases some completely twisted and disturbing practical effects that invoke films like Society and The Fly. Also, the mysterious cult and absurdity make it sound like Lucio Fulci classics, so the filmmakers have chosen some great inspiration.
The Void lands in select theaters and on VOD April 7.
