Fans of The Walking Dead were left quite shocked after Sunday’s episode. However, this time the shock was a little bit different than usual. Rather than a character being killed off or someone losing a body part, we were surprised to see a couple of characters hooking up.
When Rick and Michonne got it on, some fans were left screaming, “Finally!” while other, more composed viewers, were wondering how much more of Andrea’s comic book storyline Michonne will be filling in. While The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple is keeping that a bit of a secret for now, but he did comment on the subject while speaking to EW.

“The Andrea story from the comics has been broken up and given to several different characters,” says The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple. “This is one of those instances.”
“It was all about finding an everyday context,” Gimple says of the Rick and Michonne timing. “It was all about having these two characters come to realize that their intimacy and bond extended beyond friendship. Alexandria, in the state it’s currently in, gave them the moment to come to that realization. And that’s a super clinical, mathematical analysis of romance. So I’ll say this: These are two people who have found kindred spirits in each other, strength, respect, support, loyalty. But the world has been screaming in their faces and clawing at them for a good part of their acquaintance. For all they’ve been through, when the world stopped screaming and clawing for them, they realized what they had.”
Should Michonne’s character continue to follow the path set by Andrea in the comics, Michonne need not fear death. A direct adaptation would mean she not only stays with Rick until the comics’ current point but also serves as his go-to gal for any potential dangerous situations and decisions.
The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 PM ET on AMC.
