ComicBook.com previously debuted a first look at the trailer for the show’s second season, which begins with the Voltron Force broken after their first encounter with the evil Emperor Zarkon.

In an interview with ComicBook.com at New York Comic Con, Voltron writer Tim Hendrick teased that season 2 would explore the show’s individual characters while continuing to explore the show’s deep mythology. Hendrick also mentioned that the show would see the Voltron Force travel through more of the galaxy. There will also be plenty of more big surprises on the way, similar to the reveal that Pidge (a male character in the original show) was actually a girl in disguise.

Voltron: Legendary Defender is a reboot of the popular 1980s cartoon series, which focused on a group of pilots flying giant mechanical lions defending their planet from evil alien forces. The new series is produced by Dreamworks and is executive produced by Joaquim Dos Santos and Lauren Montgomery, both of which worked on the popular Avatar: Legend of Korra cartoon series.

The voice cast for Voltron: Legendary Defender includes The Walking Dead’s Steven Yuen, Adventure Time‘s Jeremy Shada, The Spectacular Spider-Man‘s Josh Keaton, and The Killing‘s Bex Taylor-Klaus.

Voltron: Legendary Defender quickly grew a dedicated fanbase online, thanks to its careful balance of humor and action and its strong cast of characters. Netflix confirmed the series was renewed for a second season at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year.
