The filmmakers working on What We Left Behind, the documentary chronicling the creation and lifespan of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, say the film should see release sometime in 2018.
“We have a theme and we have a point of view, and we have a lot of discussion with [Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Executive Producer Ira Steven Behr] to try to distill what we want to say,” director Adam Nimoy said during a panel at Star Trek Las Vegas (via Trek Movie).
The What We Left Behind team also confirmed, following some concern from fans, that Avery Brooks, the actor who played the lead role of Captain Benjamin Sisko in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, is involved with the film.
What We Left Behind will be packed with additional features for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fans, including outtakes and deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes footage, select scenes from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine remastered in high definition, and a featurette in which the show’s writing room reassembles to write a pitch for the first episode of a hypothetical eight season.
