The founding species of the Federation of Planets are coming to Star Trek: Discovery.

CBS All Access released photos revealing first looks at Discovery‘s Andorians and Tellarites.
The Andorians and Tellarites did not receive major makeovers like the Klingons. The aliens look like the movie-budget version of their Star Trek: The Original Series counterparts. Take a look at the photos below.
Also of note is the photo that reveals the pale Klingon Voq sitting at a table with these other aliens. It has been some time since Voq was on screen, at least in Klingon form.
Of course, these are not the founding fathers of the Federation. That’s also not the Voq we knew. These photos are from the mirror universe, where there is no Federation. Instead, the Terran Empire reigns.
“As the Discovery crew continues to try to navigate their way back home from the Mirror Universe, Tyler and Burnham find themselves on their most challenging mission yet โ facing off with a rebel faction of Andorians, Tellurites, and a familiar ivory-skinned Klingon,” showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen J. Berg tell Entertainment Weekly. “Of course, we couldn’t travel all the way there and not feature at least one proper mirror universe goatee. ‘The Wolf Inside’ is a nonstop ride that crescendos to a mind-bending confrontation that we hope will leave the audience cheering for more.”
The goatee in question, a staple of mirror Vulcans, belongs to Sarek. What brings these various species together if not the Federation? They are likely all rebels battling against the Terran Empire.
In the prime timeline, humans, Vulcans, Andorians, and Tellarites formed a coalition. This Coalition of Planets later evolved into the Federation of Planets. Harry Mudd wore an Andorian helmet in an earlier episode. This is the first time either Andorians or Tellarites have appeared in the series.
These photos are from tonight’s episode of Star Trek: Discovery, “The Wolf Inside.” The episode finds the Discovery crew still seeking a way to return home from the mirror universe.
New Star Trek: Discovery episodes become available to stream Sundays at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS All Access.
