While Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be exploring some new planets embroiled in the war between the First Order and the Resistance, some of them have already debuted in other Lucasfilm lore.
If you want to learn all about this upcoming setting, all you have to do is look to the past as it’s briefly described in the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: The Ultimate Visual Guide.

Making Star Wars previously wrote about a battle on planet described as “Mars with snow on it,” which has since received descriptions of being a planet of salt flats. Whether it’s sand or snow, well, who cares at this point? It’s not going to change the core of the film we’re anticipating.
What is interesting are the plot points surrounding this specific planet, called Crait.โจโจIt was reported that this is where the big “gorilla” walkers would make an impact (here referred to as AT-4Xs) in a big battle with the Resistance forces, going up against B-Wings as they attempt to protect a mining operation from the First Order.

The rumors coming out of filming indicate that this mining stationโat first referred to as ‘Crete’โis hidden and used to serve as a source of funding for the Rebellion during their campaign against the Empire. And now that the Republic has been destroyed, the Resistance leaders are once again using this station to fund their new war against the First Order.
While these could easily be dismissed as hearsay, it seems that the Rogue One visual guide has information about a character named Lieutenant Heff Tober and his entry points toward some truth regarding the rumor.
The entry states:
“Lieutenant Heff Tobber had been stationed as a transport pilot at the rebels’ Crait outpost prior to its abandonment.”
Heff Tobber was an X-Wing pilot in Rogue One, appearing during the final battle as portrayed by First Assistant Director Toby Hefferman.
So Crait seems to be the correct spelling, and the mining operation could be its true purpose as an outpost.
