Rey is Not a Fan of Porgs in 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'

After the debut of the trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi last month, everyone has been struck with porg fever. Well, everyone except Rey, that is.

Though Star Wars actor Daisy Ridley is a big fan of the adorable, puffin-inspired creatures, her comments in an interview with USA Today indicate that Rey probably couldn't care less about them.

"Rey, honestly, is too wrapped up in her own journey to pay attention to porgs," said Ridley. "Which is a sad thing."

But Ridley herself recognizes their brilliance, praising the puppeteers who also are responsible for handling BB-8's actions in the film.

"It's wonderful to be working around practical things on set that have such personality," Ridley said.

The actor even owns a porg toy and counts it among her prized possessions.

"It's bringing a lot of pleasure right now," Ridley said, adding that the creature is "adorable" and "hilarious."

Despite fans' adoration of the porgs, we still don't know much about them. We've learned that Chewbacca develops a strong connection to one in particular. Kathleen Kennedy also said we will see baby porgs in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and that R2-D2 will likely be shown chilling on Ahch-To with a murder of the creatures.

Then there are the more sinister rumors that the progs are a source of food for the planet's Caretakers, the mysterious Force-sensitive beings who inhabit Ahch-To. It makes sense, given that the planet is mostly desolate except for handful of species. What else would Luke Skywalker eat during his extended time in exile?

If this pans out to be true, Lucasfilm is taking a questionable approach. Why position these creatures as highly marketable holiday gifts when they just end up in someone's stomach in the movie? That would be like making an Air Bud movie where the dog gets eaten.

We'll finally learn the ultimate fate of the porgs when Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters on December 15.
