Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma got quite a few epic moments in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, one of which was actually helped by one of her costars.
Spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi below!
As those who have seen The Last Jedi know, Phasma returns in the film's second act, providing her a rematch against Finn (John Boyega). Ultimately, Finn strikes her down onto a platform. Before she collapses in (what appears to be) her fiery death, fans get their first look at the woman behind the mask, with one eye peering out.
“I think we were talking about it and it was Daisy [Ridley] actually who said it should just be Gwendoline’s beautiful, piercing eye,” Johnson told Entertainment Weekly. "Just this perfect blue eye behind this metal monster. I loved that image.”
The topic of Phasma being unmasked has floated around the Star Wars fandom for quite some time, after it didn't end up happening in The Force Awakens. Fans kind of got their wish during The Last Jedi's Vanity Fair shoot, but a LucasFilm executive insinuated that her appearance in the film wouldn't be the same.
Judging by Johnson's comments, that makes sense, as they initial toyed with a different representation of the character.
“It seemed like a really striking thing to just glimpse the humanity behind it,” Johnson said. “Originally, we were like, ‘Should it be kind of monstrous? What should be behind there?’”
"Phasma is the Kenny from South Park of this series," Johnson joked.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in theaters now.
