Video games have had terrible luck when being adapted for the big screen, that’s just a fact of history. From Super Mario Bros. to Warcraft, this genre has never gotten much love from critics, or fans.

The release of Assassin’s Creed is hoping to change that, and there are a slew of video game properties in prodcution that could reall bring on an era of quality films. The Last Of Us, Uncharted, and Halo movies are all on the horizon, but there are so many more properties that could succeed if adapted properly.

That being said, here’s the five franchises we’d most like to see made into feature films.

Red Dead Redemption

The Western revival of Hollywood is in full swing, so this Rockstar property should be bounced on, pronto.

The game features an open world, with plenty of story to tell, and the intriguing characters only add to its appeal.ย

Plus, if the film series ever got boring, there’s always zombies.

Gears Of War

Gears Of War plays like a movie during it’s campaign mode, so the film – or film series – would begin pre-prodcution with an already solid script.

The movie could take a crazy, almost campy, action tone, and would make for a perfect summer blockbuster. With the special effects technology in Hollywood today it wouldn’t be a stretch to pull off the graphics needed for the film.

There has been talks of a movie in the works at Universal, but it’s still far enough away that we were willing to include in on this list.

According to ComicBook.com insider Brandon Davis, the perfect Gears Of War Cast is already at the forefront in Hollywood. Being an obsessive Gears fan, Davis thinks that these guys would make the perfect movie:

Dave Bautista as Marcus Fenix

Dominic Purcell as Dom

Chad Coleman as Cole Train

Liam Hemsworth as Baird

Fallout

Fallout is one of the most vast universes in all of video games, and it’s such a mystery as to why it hasn’t been given a movie franchise or TV series.

The amount of stories that could be told from Fallout lore is astronomical, but the safest would be to start with the Fallout 3 storyline.ย

Following the Lone Wanderer through the DC ruins is a fond memory for any video game fan, and it would be great to see played out on the big screen.

Knights Of The Old Republic

Star Wars has never been more popular than it is right now. That being said, there are plenty of stories from the older material that fans would kill to see adapted.

Knights Of The Old Republic was a dark tale about the old days of The Force, and fans have always wanted more from this storyline. What better spin-off could Disney green light?

A group of fans have actually signed a petition to bring this story to Netflix as a TV series. While not a movie, that could be just asย satisfying.

Conker’s Bad Fur Day

The success of Sausage Party proved that adult animation has a place on the big screen, so why not give the original potty-mouthed cartoon some love?

Conker’s Bad Fur Day was an extremely crude tale of an alcoholic squirrel a making his way through a nasty turf war. The jokes were over the top, but always hilarious, and 90s nostalgia would give the film an enormous boost.
