As far as honors in the world of Disney go, it doesn’t get much better than receiving a Disney Legend Award, given to individuals who have made extraordinary and integral contributions to The Walt Disney Company. At this weekend’s D23 Expo, a reception was thrown to honor this year’s inductees, with Carrie Fisher‘s tribute being one of the most emotional of the whole event.

“Carrie has been an iconic part of the Star Wars franchise, as you saw, from the very beginning,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said. “We all miss her talent, her wit, and her friendship.”
“This December, we will release her final film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” Iger added, while also pointing out that she brought her heart and humor to the role. “We’re fortunate to have worked with her. We’re incredibly proud to call her a Disney Legend.”
Earlier this year, Fisher was honored at Star Wars Celebration, an event which was attended by some of the most integral members of the Star Wars family.

Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, attended the event while wearing a white gown that honored Fisher’s wardrobe from the first film. Sadly, Lourd was unable to attend D23, as she’s in the middle of filming the latest season of American Horror Story, sending a letter in her absence.
“As far back as I can remember, my mom and I have been Disney fanatics. I was so obsessed with Ariel that I wanted to change my name,” Lourd wrote. “She might have even loved it more than I did. Becoming part of the Disney family was truly an amazing moment for her. She secretly always wanted to be a Disney princess, so being a Disney princess and a Disney Legend would be her dream.”

Fisher’s on-screen brother, Mark Hamill, was also inducted as a Disney Legend, using his time at the podium to honor the actress.
“The super cool space sis I have in Carrie Francis Fisher. I loved her. And we were like siblings. The good and the bad!” Hamill joked.
“What a great thrill it was to come back in The Force Awakens. At that time in our lives, we were comfortable with each other,” Hamill said. “I know if she was here today, she would have flipped me the bird at least twice already.”
Fans will get to see Fisher’s final performance when The Last Jedi lands in theaters December 15.
