As if winning two Golden Globes isn’t enough, writer/producer/actor/musician Donald Glover is preparing to play an incredibly iconic Star Wars character – Lando Calrissian.

Glover was cast as the young version of the classic Billy Dee Williams role, and he’s set to be one of the starts of the upcoming Star Wars standalone film based on the early years of Han Solo. Alden Ehrenreich will play the young version of Harrison Ford’s Solo.
After the Golden Globes this weekend, USA Today caught up with Glover to talk about his show Atlanta, which won big at the awards show. The site also managed to ask Glover what he’s doing to prepare for the role of Lando, and he revealed just how dedicated he is to the part.
“Not getting to eat anything enjoyable for the rest of my life,” Glover joked. “Lando’s a big deal to me. It was literally the first toy I ever got. When you have something that’s kind of iconic … where people pay attention to it, it’s hard because you want to live up to the expectation. But all you can do is live up to your own. And Star Wars is really high.”
While the serious diet doesn’t sound like too much fun, it’s awesome to see how seriously Glover is taking the new role. Star Wars fans have always loved Lando, and Glover is doing everything he can to live up to the hype. Being a nerd himself, the actor clearly understands how pivotal his character is.
