If the box office is any indication, fans can’t get enough of Star Wars — and Disney is looking to take advantage of that with the creation of Star Wars Land, bringing a galaxy far, far away to its U.S. theme parks.
The Orlando Sentinel, located not far from Walt Disney World in Florida, has some new details about the project which should help tide fans over until they can actually attend.

What will they be setting foot onto when it gets there? Well, according to a panel at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, the answer is an entirely new world in the Star Wars universe.
“We wanted to build new Star Wars stories, new Star Wars destinations, but this time you could be in that story that required us to go to a new place,” Disney executive Scott Trowbridge said. “It’s a new planet. It’s a new place. It’s this remote frontier outpost.”
It sounds like Disney is hoping to tap into the beloved “used universe” aesthetic of the original Star Wars trilogy, bringing guests to a spot that used to be a grand spectacle before it got old and dingy.
“This used to be a vibrant trading port back in the old sub-lightspeed days, but now with advent of hyperspace, its prominence has kind of fallen and faded a little bit which has made it a great spot for those who didn’t want to be on that kind of mainstream path,” Trowbridge said. “The smugglers, the bounty hunters, the rogue adventurers looking to crew up, the people who don’t want to be found — basically all the interesting people.”
The 14-acre attraction will open in 2019 at Walt Disney World in Orlando and Walt Disney Land in California.
