Nissan Goes Rogue for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

With a compact SUV called the “Rogue,” Nissan was a natural partner for Lucasfilm when it comes to promoting their next film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. In a new TV spot for the Nissan Rogue, a driver navigates through an intense battle between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. She drives between Stormtroopers (including the new Death Troopers and Shoretroopers) and Walkers, under a dogfight between TIE fighters and X-wings and A-wings, and eventually comes close to hitting K-2SO, the loveable new droid played by Alan Tudyk in the movie, making a cameo experience.

“Take on any galaxy with a car that can stop for you,” the voiceover says.

This is just the start of Nissan’s campaign centered around the Nissan Rogue and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Fans that purchase a 2017 Rogue: Rogue One Star Wars Limited Edition vehicle will recieve a full-size prop replica Death Trooper Helmet along with their new SUV. Which one is the bonus? “Nissan’s new custom-designed campaign aims to provide Nissan and Star Warsfans exclusive access to the popular franchise in ways they’ve never seen before,” said Jeremy Tucker, vice president, Marketing Communications & Media, Nissan North America in a press release. “Through this exciting campaign, Nissan offers customers new Star Wars experiences as well as a unique look at what driving with the advanced technologies already available on Nissan’s industry-leading cars, trucks and SUVs brings.”

The TV spot was produced in a 30-second version for television and a 60-second edition for movie theaters, both launching October 31, 2016.

“Showcasing Nissan’s advanced driver assistance systems in a simulated Star Wars environment, raises awareness for the robust technology offering on the newly refreshed Nissan Rogue in a very different way,” added Tucker. “The message pairs Nissan’s brand-DNA of driving excitement with relevant product information about how our vehicles are engineered to help our customers safely take on whatever out-of-this-world obstacles that they may encounter.”

Fans can also enter a sweepstakes starting on October 31 through November 27, with a chance to win a trip to the El Capitan theater in Hollywood for opening night of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Head to NissanUSA.com/StarWarsRogueOne staring on October 31 for more information.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, directed by Gareth Edwards, is the first of the new standalone Star Wars films, taking place outside the “Skywalker Saga” of the Episodic films. The film debuts in theaters December 16, 2016.
