Ever since the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi debuted earlier this months, fans have speculated what direction the film will take the beloved fictional universe.

But, as it turns out, the man responsible for writing and directing The Last Jedi is not currently involved with writing its follow up.

It was known for quite some time that Rian Johnson would not be returning to direct Episode IX, with that honor going to Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow. But early reports indicated that Johnson would be penning an early treatment of the film’s story, which would then evolve to the film’s actual script.

But according to a recent tweet from Johnson, that is no longer the case.

Judging by the replies to Johnson’s tweet, his news has hit some Star Wars fans- especially those who were impressed by The Last Jedi‘s trailer – pretty hard. But the script for Episode IX – which is set to begin filming this summer – appears to be in capable hands.

Trevorrow is reportedly penning the script, along with Derek Connolly, who collaborated with Trevorrow on the two most recent entries to the Jurassic franchise, as well as the 2012 indie hit Safety Not Guaranteed. Connolly has another recent blockbuster on his resume as well, as he helped write March’s well-received Kong: Skull Island.

While some are sad to see Johnson not involved with Episode IX, that is hopefully a good indication of what fan response will be like to The Last Jedi when it premieres on December 15th.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, from writer/director Rian Johnson, is in post-production now for a December 15, 2017 release. The film follows-up and continues the story of the next generation of the saga as Rey, Poe, Finn, and Kylo Ren find their place in the galaxy and follow the legacy of Luke Skywalker, Leia, and Han Solo.

Daisy Ridley returns to star as Rey, with other returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong’o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern join the cast in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
