From the opening scenes to the film’s finale, Star Wars: The Force Awakens showed that Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) wanted nothing more than to tear apart what remained of the Jedi, even if his own father stood in his way. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, however, it sounds like Kylo might have to deal with his own personal conflicts in The Last Jedi.

Driver revealed, “I feel like almost everyone is in that rehabilitation state [at the beginning of The Last Jedi]. You know, I don’t think that patricide is all that it’s cracked up to be. Maybe that’s where Kylo Ren is starting from. His external scar is probably as much an internal one.”
Could this mean that, having killed his father and appeased Snoke, Kylo could realize the severity of his actions and the repercussions of merely following orders?
Writer/director Rian Johnson confirms that multiple characters in Last Jedi will be forced to make difficult decisions in the film, admitting, “I saw it as the job of this middle chapter to challenge all of those characters โ let’s see what happens if we knock the stool out from under them.”
Members of the cast and crew have hinted at what will happen to Rey when she meets her “hero” in Luke Skywalker, but as we’ve seen from the trailer, Luke’s devotion to the Jedi seems to have wavered, so if a hero’s beliefs could be questioned, it’s possible that so could our villain’s.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi lands in theaters December 15.
