For Star Wars fans, all eyes are on Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the upcoming Han Solo standalone movie. For Lucasfilm, the studio is already looking ahead to the next Star Wars story, and they may have found a key component in Sam Esmail, the creator of Mr. Robot.
A new rumor being reported by Omega Underground suggests that Lucasfilm is looking at Esmail to write the next Star Wars Story movie. The writer has reportedly taken several pitch meetings with Lucasfilm.
The report cannot confirm what the next Star Wars Story movie will be, but sources suggest it is like a Kenobi movie, focusing on the life of Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi. The Kenobi movie has a swell of fan support behind it, but Lucasfilm has yet to say that such a film is being considered. In fact, the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi's years as a hermit on Tatooine has been told in the pages of Marvel's Star Wars comic book series, which brings into question what material a standalone movie would work with.
For his part, Ewan MacGregor, the actor who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, says he'd be happy to reprise the role, but he also says he does not believe a Kenobi movie is very likely to happen anytime soon.

On the other hand, there have been rumbling about a Boba Fett. A Boba Fett standalone movie was supposedly almost announced in 2015, but Lucasfilm reportedly pulled back over concerns about the director. Still, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy has said that Boba Fett is a "high priority" for the studio, suggesting a standalone movie is still in the works for the bounty hunter.
Mr. Robot is easily Esmail's best-known work. The series about a misanthropic hacker became a hit for the USA Network and has garnered critical praise, awards, and two Emmy nominations. Esmail has also directed 15 episodes of the series. The reports say nothing about Esmail directing a Star Wars movie.
The first Star Wars standalone movie was Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rogue One told the story of how Rebel Alliance stole the plans for the Death Star from the Galactic Empire in the hours leading up to to the opening of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
The second film will focus Han Solo, the lovable scoundrel played by Harrison Ford in the original Star Wars trilogy and in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Alden Ehrenreich will play a younger Han Solo in the film, which is directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord.
