Do or do not, Lucasfilm – there is no try. When it comes to pleasing fans, the famous sci-fi studio does its best to cater to every need, but there is a large group of fans waiting for Lucasfilm to make one very long-awaited announcement. Ever since news broke that the studio would being doing standalone films, longtime fans have been asking for Obi-Wan Kenobi to get his own feature. Over the years, Ewan McGregor has signaled his interest in reprise the role which Alec Guinness first made famous. But, according to the Scottish star, he doesn’t think Lucasfilm is likely to make an Obi-Wan movie a priority for quite some time.

Recently, McGregor spoke with Entertainment Weekly shortly after Star Wars Celebration got into full swing. It was there that actor reiterated his interest in playing Obi-Wan once more, but the actor says he has good reason to think Lucasfilm isn’t rushing the idea.

“It would be a good segue between the last episode of the prequels and the new episodes,” he said before adding a caveat. “I think they’ve got films to make until the 2020s, so I don’t think it’s going to happen soon if it happens at all.”

For now, things don’t look good for fans who have been hoping Obi-Wan might make a comeback. The first standalone film undertaken by Lucasfilm premiered last year when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story earned rave reviews. The next spinoff feature will focus on Han Solo, but no further titles have been confirmed. Lucasfilm executives have hinted one or two new standalone films will be announced this summer, so fans can only hope the studio has a trick under its sleeve for Obi-Wan.

After all, he is the Jedi fans have been looking for.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, from writer/director Rian Johnson, is in post-production now for a December 15, 2017 release. The film follows-up and continues the story of the next generation of the saga as Rey, Poe, Finn, and Kylo Ren find their place in the galaxy and follow the legacy of Luke Skywalker, Leia, and Han Solo. Daisy Ridley returns to star as Rey, with other returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong’o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern join the cast in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
