Dating back decades, there’s a stigma that anyone who’s a fan of nerd culture is bad at sports, but on July 7, The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson hopes to prove that sitmga only to be a myth. To commemorate The Los Angeles Dodgers’ “Star Wars Night,” the director will be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

Star Wars night at @Dodgers Stadium is 7/7 & Iโm throwing out the first pitch. Legit more nervous about this than the premiere of the movie.

Taking to Twitter, the director shared the news with his fans about the honor bestowed upon him. The pressure of a full stadium watching his physical feat is clearly overpowering, as he claimed he was “legit more nervous about this than the premiere of the movie.”
The director continued to share his thoughts about the occasion, in which he jokingly said it might be the last time he is “ever seen in public.”
Come on down & say hi, because if this goes badly it may be the last time I am ever seen in public. Tickets: https://t.co/VyDIYn1wZY

Heโll be fine. Very few people know this, but Rian already threw out the first pitch at a game. Watch: pic.twitter.com/o6Px88cVkb

Even director Chris Miller, who recently parted way with the Han Solo spin-off film, recalled his experiences of throwing out the opening pitch.
I threw out 1st pitch at Mariners Lego Movie day– missed wide left. Announcer said “I guess not *everything* is awesome”

I am practicing my laughing-it-off embarrassed head shake as much as my pitch.

The ritual has a long history with the sport, originating with a guest of honor tossing a baseball from their seat in the crowd to the pitcher or catcher to kick off the game. It was an unscheduled appearance at a baseball game by then-president Ronald Reagan who made the first pitch from the field itself, which the sport has now adopted as the official “first pitch” location.
