Get the oxygen flowing to your braincells because there’s a lot to unpack here, as we finally get to hear Luke Skywalker‘s voice as he guides Rey on her path to harness the Force. And though the trailer had a lot of cool moments, amazing visuals, and returning characters in the mix, it also featured something that is sure to get every Star Wars fan’s heart racing: new ships.
The rumor mill has had us speculating for a while about what new locations and battles will be featured when the First Order goes up against the Resistance in the new film. We previously heard of a planet called Crait, the new “Gorilla” Walkers, and a battle with some B-Wings.
Apparently those are not B-Wings, but a new kind of land speeder. The trailer shows them flying across the ground, kicking up red dust with a tail dragging below. They also might not be speeders, it just appears that way as they seem to stick low to the ground.
UP NEXT: Check out the new poster featuring Rey, Luke Skywalker, and Kylo Ren!
Based on what we know about Crait being a secret mining operation for the Rebellion and now the Resistance, are these ships functional for that purpose? The arm dragging on the ground could be used to unearth a certain resource just below the planet’s surface, causing that red dust to fly everywhere behind them.
The ships fly in formation as they rapidly approach a gang of walkers in the distance, which are probably the “Gorilla” Walkers we’ve previously heard about.
Though the Last Jedi will continue this new story, it also seems to be paying homage to its corresponding middle chapter of Empire Strikes Back with a big battle between speeders and enemy walkers. Doesn’t seem like tow cables will do much this go around, so hopefully they are packing some firepower. But if they are mining vehicles, hopefully this campaign is just a distraction before some heavy duty Resistance fighters can make it to the battlefield.
Hopefully we learn more about these new ships in the future as more information about Star Wars: The Last Jedi starts trickling out.
